Accepting submissions for the 2009-2010 Phonebook cover

Pacific Publishing, publishers of the Central Oregon Coast Telephone Book, this week announces its bi-annual call to photographers.

2008-2009 Phonebook Cover

Every other year, the cover of the local phone book rotates from an original painting to a photograph. Last year’s directory featured an original watercolor painting of a coastal scene at Devil’s Elbow State Park by longtime local artist Pat Knipe.

This year, local photographers are invited to submit photos for the 2009-10 phone book cover. The winning photo will be determined by Pacific Publishing. All submissions must be high-resolution vertical photos of a scene that represents the central Oregon coast.

The following criteria will apply:

All submissions must be high-resolution vertical photos of a scene that represents the central Oregon coast. The phone book’s 2007-08 cover was a collage of photos representing the coast by local photographer Curt Peters. Other recent photo covers have included a Cliff Harvey photo of a 1944 biplane flying over the Siuslaw River Bridge and a Charles Draper photo of local fishing boats in the Siuslaw Bay sunrise.

Contestants are encouraged to e-mail jpegs (up to 5 MB) to pacpub AT oregonfast.net. Photos may also be delivered by mail or hand delivered on a CD or DVD to Pacific Publishing, P.O. Box 2767, 1525 12th Street, Suite 8B, Florence, OR 97439. Please do not send prints. The actual photo chosen for the cover will need to be high resolution for the best printing quality.

The deadline for photo entries will be May 31, 2009, at midnight. Submitted entries must be original work and not copyrighted, or, if copyrighted, the person submitting it must be the sole owner of the copyright.

Any people identifiable in the photo must have signed a photo release form. Pacific Publishing will have non-exclusive rights to use and publish the photograph on its directory cover and for promotional purposes determined by the publisher.

In return, the photographer receives the promotional value of having his or her photograph appear on 21,000 copies of the phone book that are delivered to every home and business in a 70-mile coastal corridor from Winchester Bay to Waldport and east to Swisshome-Deadwood. A photo and biography of the photographer will appear on page 3 of the 2009-10 phone book. Pacific Publishing will also contribute $300 of advertising space in the 2009-10 phone book for the selected photographer.
